The Leidos Innovations Center (LInC) currently has an opening for a Fuel Cell Engineer to work in our San Diego, California location. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated fuel cell engineer to support an advanced technology program and to support our growth in the renewable energy space.
The LInC has an immediate need for a qualified individual with direct experience pertaining to the design, fabrication, and testing of fuel or electrolytic cells. Ideal candidates will have experience working with molten salt electrolytes, catalyst integration, bipolar plate design/production, fuel/electrolytic cell design, assembly and testing.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of the design, fabrication, and testing process related to the development of a prototype molten salt electrolyzer in support of Government-funded efforts in the areas of power systems and sustainable energy.
- Interface with key stakeholders by effectively communicating research in Government customer meetings, internal meetings, and through progress reports, peer-reviewed publications, and/or patents.
- Quickly adapt to evolving research needs and rapidly acquire new scientific knowledge to stay informed on new, emerging technologies.
- Work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team consisting of electrochemists, engineers (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or software), and materials scientists. Candidates should follow sound scientific practices and maintain effective documentation of activities and analyses.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline, OR Master's degree with 6+ years of engineering or related technical experience, OR PhD degree with 4+ years of engineering or related technical experience.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts and principles (e.g., prototyping, testing/evaluation, process control, etc.).
- Ability to work independently with hands-on experience with device prototyping, testing/evaluation, and data analysis.
- Team oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with people from diverse technical areas and disciplines.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized while working in a team environment of engineers, scientists, and management. Strong presentation, writing and communication skills.
- Great work ethic and an enthusiasm for problem-solving.
- U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with designing, building, and testing molten salt fuel cells or electrolyzers.
- Experience with bipolar plate design/production.
- Experience with catalystintegration. Catalyst synthesis is an added plus.
- Experience with flow-field optimization, electrolyte sealing, and separator optimization.
- Experience with basic and advanced analytical methods to characterize fuel cell or electrolyzer products and performance.
- Experience with process control and automation of routine processes.
- Possess US Government Security Clearance.
- Familiarity with working in a fast-paced DoD funded, milestones-driven environment.

Pay Range:Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
