Principal Investigator: Dr. Babajide Ojo
Assistant Professor,
Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition
Department of Pediatrics
University of Alabama at Birmingham

Position Summary:

A Postdoctoral Scholar position is open in the Jide-Ojo lab (https://jide-ojolab.com/) in the Pediatric Gastroenterology department. The lab uses patient-derived intestinal organoids and murine models to determine how our environment (dietary components, therapies) shapes epithelial metabolism and regeneration in intestinal health and inflammatory bowel diseases. This position is available for two years with the possibility of an extension upon satisfactory progress. The candidate will lead an ongoing NIH-funded project with potential clinical and policy implications, that is aimed at understanding how sulfite additives and components of the sulfur metabolic pathway impact intestinal epithelial metabolism and differentiation in inflammatory bowel disease. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own independent ideas upon approval from the PI and compete for intramural and extramural grants. The candidate will be expected to develop, submit, and present conference presentations and publish research outcomes. The successful candidate will work in an environment with multiple collaborative opportunities with graduate students, clinical fellows, and physicians to advance patient-centered care.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent qualification in a biomedical-related field with significant proof of productivity in a high-performing research laboratory. Hands-on experience working with mouse models is desired with an interest in learning/working with patient-derived organoids. Experience applying computational biologic approaches is desirable. The candidate will have ample opportunity to learn new techniques; however, experience in one or more of the following techniques is desired: primary cell culture, gene editing, transgenic mouse breeding and colony maintenance, flow cytometry, metabolomics, extracellular flux analysis, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, bulk and single-cell transcriptomics.

How to apply:
