Essential Job Duties

The Department of Political Science at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in East Asian Politics to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2026.

Those with relevant expertise will have the opportunity to teach in the Master of International Studies program. Candidates should be able to demonstrate that they will have defended their dissertation by their start date.

Teaching responsibilities will be at the graduate and undergraduate level in thedepartment’s Master of International Studies (MIS) program as well as Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Political Science. The successful candidate will maintain a robust research agenda, teach two courses per semester, contribute to student mentoring, and actively participate in service to the university and profession.

The applicant must be able to develop coursework in East Asian politics at the graduate level for our MIS program and be able to teach undergraduate course(s) on the politics and political issues
relevant to East Asia as a region and/or specific countries (China, Japan) in that region of the
world.

Scholars with interests in comparative political institutions, international political economy, security, energy, climate change, sustainability and environmental policies and/or democratization are particularly encouraged to apply.

Other Responsibilities

Other duties will be performed as assigned by the department head.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Applicants must have a PhD in Political Science or a related field.

  • Strong research and publication skills
  • Future research productivity

  • Teaching experience at the university level and demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence.
