The Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applicants for two full-time (100% FTE) tenure-track assistant professor positions in Advertising. The expected start date is August 2024. Successful applicants should demonstrate a promising record of scholarship and an eagerness to contribute to the department’s teaching, service, public engagement and diversity missions. Possible target areas of research include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Advertising, public relations, branding, or digital communication
  • User experience (UX), Virtual Reality (VR), or Augmented Reality (AR) and advertising
  • Media psychology
  • Global advertising
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and advertising
  • Qualitative research methods, historical approaches to advertising
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI), computational advertising, machine learning, Big data and advertising

Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. in hand by August 16, 2024 in a relevant field (advertising, communication, mass communication, marketing, psychology, information or computer sciences, etc.). Teaching responsibilities will include courses in our existing undergraduate and graduate curricula, with the potential to develop new electives in areas related to advertising or public relations. An interest in public engagement is a plus. An ability to advance the department’s commitment to DEI through research, teaching, and engagement is desired.

The Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising is the first university department focusing on advertising education in the country and a global leader in advertising research. Consistent with Sandage’s vision of advertising, the Department strives to shape the future of advertising by placing more emphasis on the why than on the how of advertising activities in broader social contexts. Faculty of the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising are highly interdisciplinary. We publish books and articles in flagship journals in a variety of fields such as advertising, history, public relations, communication, psychology, media, marketing, and information and computer sciences. We conduct theory-driven research with implications for the advertising and media landscape. The department is housed within the College of Media. Job Summary

This is a tenure-track position where the purpose of the job is to teach undergraduate and graduate students (40%), conduct scholarly research (40%) and engage in service to the department, university, and field (20%).

Appointment Information

This is a 9-month full-time tenure track Assistant Professor position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
